The Assessment Process

I am a huge fan of industry regulation and standardization.

It is important to ensure we are all working to the necessary standard, upholding professional conduct and working in an ethical manner.

The assessment process involves;

  1. A multiple choice exam

  2. X3 case studies
    These will involve filling out a Case Study Template (see link below),
    which prompts the information needed to fulfil the marking criteria.

  • An overview of the case

  • Goals set (and why)

  • Any difficulties and how you overcame these, including reflecting on

  • A summary of the training plan set

  • Reflections/Evaluation

    Marking criteria for this would be that you have demonstrated an ability to empathise with the client, understand the client and dogs needs, communicate, set goals appropriately, risk assess and evaluate progress. This does not have to be super detailed. The template will prompt the information needed to ensure marking criteria is met.

    3. X3 videos of you training a dog-  showing progression of you going through three exercises, one of which must be chin target or muzzle to show your ability to train building duration. These videos will be watched and assessed via marking criteria which is looking for you having demonstrated a good understanding of learning theory, how to train the exercise, progress the exercise and achieve something which could be used in a functional way by the end of your training.

These videos do not need to be well edited, narrated or anything special. They also do not need to show completely finished training, just training that is on its way will suffice. As long as I can see the training, your understanding and the progression.

You can also submit a paragraph reflecting on your training to support demonstration of your understanding (Template provided).

When you have completed the course, email the office at info@petprepinitiative.com. We will send you an assessment pack which includes guidelines and templates.
